Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician I - Blood Component Preparation to join our team at the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for preparing blood products that meet the highest standards of safety, purity, and potency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare blood products according to FDA and AABB regulations
  • Perform visual inspections of blood products at each step of processing
  • Update computer records and reports, and perform data entry
  • Organize, sort, and label frozen products
  • Prepare recovered plasma for shipment
  • Assist in labeling red blood cells as needed
  • Perform required equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control on assigned instrumentation
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect products, troubleshoot, and perform corrections as needed
  • Order, receive, and check inventory of supplies frequently and promptly notify Department Supervisor of inadequacies or surpluses
  • Unpack and receive shipments containing donor samples from multiple sites as required
  • Inspect, sort, prepare, pack, and ship samples for donor testing as required
  • Organize, log, store, and manage sample collections, including problem samples
  • Respond to environmental and storage alarms and perform corrective action when necessary
Requirements
  • High school education or equivalent
