Position Overview:
Under the general oversight of the Patient Care and Integrated Therapies Manager, you will deliver comprehensive music therapy services tailored to the emotional, physical, cognitive, social/cultural, and communicative needs of patients and their families. This role includes providing music therapy for patients at the end of life in partnership with the psychosocial team. You will also conduct educational sessions, document interventions in patient records, and collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, manager, and creative arts team members regarding clinical care planning and insights gained from music therapy sessions. Additionally, you will develop and sustain a graduate music therapy practicum and internship program in cooperation with local universities and the management team. You will supervise volunteers and interns who provide music-based interventions and maintain accurate statistics and data related to music therapy.
Job Description:
EDUCATION
A Bachelor's degree in Arts Therapy, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent education/experience is required. Board Certification in Music Therapy must be obtained within one year of hire, following the completion of an internship in Music Therapy.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Familiarity with basic therapeutic activities, devices, and equipment, with the ability to adapt activities to various patient functional levels and skill sets.
- Working knowledge of The Joint Commission, Title 22, and the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA) as they pertain to therapeutic activities.
- General understanding of medical terminology, including proficiency in activity interest surveys, Minimum Data Set (MDS), and Resident Assessment Protocol (RAP) evaluations.
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills to convey treatments, diagnoses, or sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.
- Program development and administration skills, including effective group leadership capabilities.
- Attention to detail with proficient time management, sound observation, and organizational skills.
- Basic proficiency with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and EPIC.
- Ability to work in an environment with elderly, chronically ill, disoriented, and occasionally contentious patients.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks under varied and urgent conditions while adhering to procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely, utilizing existing procedures to identify and resolve routine or standard issues.
- Commitment to ensuring the privacy of each patient's Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with patients, their families/caregivers, peers, and other healthcare providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to deliver the highest quality of patient care.

Pay Range is $39.59 to $53.44 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
