The Automated Testing Lab is a cutting-edge facility that provides a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative healthcare. Compensation: The salary for the Lead Medical Laboratory Technician begins at $24.40 per hour, with placement determined by individual qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Role Model:
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, hospital, and laboratory matters.
    • Engage professionally with other departments.
    • Represent the Laboratory on Hospital committees as necessary.
    • Follow policies for reporting abnormal and/or critical results and turnaround times.
    • Participate in and monitor quality assurance metrics.
    • Adhere to personal appearance standards and display hospital ID badge.
    • Comply with attendance and punctuality policies while monitoring subordinate attendance.
    • Serve as a resource for compliance inquiries from subordinates.
    • Follow all safety protocols as outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual.
  • Supervisory Duties:
    • Assume supervisory responsibilities and perform 'in charge' tasks as needed.
    • Evaluate and resolve issues in the absence of the Supervisor, communicating with appropriate management as necessary.
    • Participate in an extensive administrative call rotation with other supervisory staff.
  • Operational Responsibilities:
    • Perform all duties of a Medical Lab Technician.
    • Ensure that instrument maintenance and function checks are completed and documented accurately.
    • Troubleshoot instrument issues and report them to the Laboratory Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
    • Review quality control logs and address any discrepancies with management.
    • Compile quality assurance data and prepare reports as directed.
    • Monitor proficiency testing activities and assist in evaluating results.
    • Support scheduling efforts as directed by the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain awareness of appropriate inventory levels across laboratory sections.
    • Take proactive measures to prevent supply shortages or excesses.
    • Assist with purchasing supplies in the absence of supervisory personnel.
  • Training and Development:
    • Master new procedures within established timelines.
    • Stay informed about changes in procedures and protocols.
    • Conduct training and orientation sessions thoroughly and systematically.
    • Share knowledge of procedures and testing outcomes with colleagues.
    • Engage in special projects and evaluations as needed.
    • Perform test evaluations and validations for new procedures.
    • Develop and revise procedures according to CLSI guidelines.
    • Deliver educational lectures and hands-on instruction as appropriate.
  • Competency Assessment:
    • Assist supervisory staff in observing and documenting laboratory personnel competency.
    • Complete all assigned tasks within the designated time frames.

Qualifications:

  • Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist: Requires three years of experience as a Medical Technologist, with two years preferred in the host laboratory.
  • Lead Medical Laboratory Technician: Requires three years of experience with certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or four years without certification, including two years preferred in the host laboratory.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • ASCP or equivalent certification in medical technology (MT) or categorical certification preferred.
  • Act 34 clearance.
