Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct the activities of nursing and ancillary personnel, utilizing professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ensure that all patients receive cost-effective, professional care that results in positive outcomes and high patient satisfaction, while maintaining the highest level of patient safety.
  • Assess and take steps to improve the quality of patient experience.
  • Develop and implement systems to facilitate staff members' ability to meet patient/family/physician needs.
  • Participate in hospital Performance Improvement (PI) Teams and ensure compliance with Patient Safety Goals as identified by The Joint Commission, hospital policy, Quality Measures, and Patient Safety initiatives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Five years' technical experience: Preferred
  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated supervisory skills: Required
Licenses/Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Preferred
  • Clinical specialty and/or nursing administration certification: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required
Department Specific License/Certifications
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS): Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Healthstream Advanced Cardiac Life Support (HS-ACLS) or RQIACLS: Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Healthstream Pediatric Advanced Life Support (HS-PALS) or RQIPALS: Required
Essential Functions
  • Provides unit-based leadership in the development and provision of clinical services. Supervises and directs unit personnel. Initiates and coordinates individual and team conferences with health team members, patients, and/or families to initiate and revise care plans for optimal, individualized patient care.
  • Fosters an environment of patient and family-centered care with special attention to cultural diversity and personal needs. Makes rounds to have an overview of patient care needs and to introduce self to patient and families. Solicits feedback on quality of nursing services and any other concerns.
  • Ensures compliance with Patient Safety Goals as identified by The Joint Commission, hospital policy, Quality Measures, and Patient Safety initiatives through unit management and participation in hospital Performance Improvement (PI) Teams.
