Position Overview

AECOM is looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to be located in Denver, CO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field exploration and characterization efforts, along with laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
  • Supervise teams conducting material characterization, seepage and slope stability analyses, and design slope stabilization solutions for dams and spillways.
  • Manage teams performing seismic stability assessments and deformation analyses of dams, including evaluating earthquake ground motions and liquefaction potential.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to project teams, clients, regulatory bodies, and technical review panels.
  • Oversee the creation of technical reports, independent dam safety evaluations, and potential failure mode analyses.
  • Conduct risk assessments for water storage and hydropower dams, identifying potential failure modes and leading risk analysis workshops.
  • Manage project scope, timelines, and budgets effectively.
  • Mentor junior staff, fostering their technical growth and success.
  • Review engineering documentation produced by junior engineers.
  • Perform independent technical reviews to ensure the quality of project outputs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • A valid U.S. Driver's License is required due to the nature of the work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Over 20 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in dam design and evaluation, including material characterization and stability analyses.
  • Familiarity with design documentation, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven experience in leading tasks with effective delegation.
  • Proficiency in software such as GeoStudio (SEEP/W and SLOPE/W), UTEXAS4, Grapher, FLAC/FLAC3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in risk analysis projects.
  • Business development experience, including preparing proposals and cost estimates.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to ensuring safe project execution.
