The Safety and Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and property within a 200+ bed women's homeless shelter. This role reports to the Shift Supervisor and Security Manager of the facility.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily inspections of client rooms to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Escort clients to appointments as needed, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor.
- Monitor client behavior, providing excellent customer service and encouraging compliance with facility policies and procedures.
- Control access at the main entrance, screening clients and visitors, and utilizing a magnetometer/x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
- Perform crisis intervention to de-escalate potential crises and document all such situations and interventions.
- Make hourly rounds throughout the facility, including hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens, perimeter checks, and office spaces.
- Respond to incidents and assist with client intakes.
- Perform daily pack-ups and log client property belonging to curfew violators.
- Store and remove client property once the mandated storage time has expired.
- Maintain a clean and organized storage area.
- Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
- Call emergency services as directed.
- Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk, monitoring video surveillance cameras and the fire prevention/detection alarm notification system.
- Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing fire procedures.
- Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
- A high school diploma or GED and prior security experience are required.
- Must have a NYS Security Guard License and current 8-hour Annual Certificate.
- Fire Guard License for Shelters is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) is preferred.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
