  • All newly graduated nurses with less than one year of experience will start at Level I with a diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher qualification.

Advancement Levels:

Level II

  • Must meet the criteria for the previous level.
  • One year of nursing experience is required.

Level III

  • Must fulfill the requirements of prior levels.
  • Two years of experience along with one specialty certification is necessary.
  • Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Competencies include regular charge nurse duties and/or mentoring new staff or nursing students.

Level IV

  • Available to BSN or higher degree holders or ADN/diploma nurses with five years of experience.
  • One specialty certification is required.
  • Competencies include charge nurse/preceptor responsibilities and participation in quality improvement and shared governance at the unit level.

Level V

  • Open to candidates with an MSN or higher with four years of experience, BSN with four years of experience and a health-related Master's Degree, or BSN with five years of experience.
  • One specialty certification is required.
  • Competencies include charge nurse/preceptor roles and involvement in quality improvement and shared governance at the organizational level.

Level VI

  • For candidates with an MSN or higher degree and seven or more years of experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • One specialty certification is required.
  • Competencies include charge nurse/preceptor roles and participation in quality improvement and shared governance at the system level.
