About the Role

Sunland Asphalt is seeking a highly skilled Civil Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our estimating department, you will play a crucial role in evaluating bid specifications and drawings to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate bid specifications and drawings to ensure accurate project estimates
  • Collaborate with sales and production teams to compile competitive cost estimates
  • Responsible for quantifying project amounts and components
  • Understand project/contract sites and restrictions
  • Work directly with project consultants to gather necessary information for bidding projects
  • Must be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the estimating team and sales team to bid projects effectively
  • Collect and review proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare and present estimates
  • Analyze proposals and requirements
  • Analyze past performance data and apply it to current bids
  • Solicit and maintain communication with subcontractors and vendors
  • Invoke Sunland's core values
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements needed for each project
  • Compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings
  • Use computer software to prepare estimates and supporting documentation
  • Manage personal company software estimating queue daily
  • Review bid requirements thoroughly
  • Responsible for cataloging all information, notes, and meetings in company software
  • Provide weekly estimating recap to the estimating manager
  • Serve as a front-line company representative and provide excellent service to customers and the public
  • Follow up with subcontractors to ensure bids are received
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred
  • Minimum of two years estimating experience
  • Minimum of five years general construction experience
  • Must be able to read and understand plans/blueprints
  • Must have excellent math skills
  • Must have strong computer skills and be proficient in MS Office
  • Must have strong communication and writing skills
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean motor-vehicle record
  • Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and background check is required
