Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Lifeguard to join our team at the University of New Mexico. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining patron surveillance of the facility, enforcing rules and regulations, and providing emergency care and treatment as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of headcount, first aid practices, and other relevant information.
  • Perform cleaning duties and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as a team, adhering to American Red Cross standards and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Certification in first aid, AED, oxygen, and lifeguarding for the professional rescuer through Red Cross.
  • Ability to swim 500 yards in 10 minutes or less, swim with a 10-pound brick for 25 yards, and retrieve a 10-pound brick from 14 feet depth and tread with it on the surface for one minute.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Must maintain Certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training and be CPR Certified.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a swimming pool or aquatic environment.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and response techniques.

Working Conditions:

This is an on-call position, and the successful candidate must be available to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Benefits:

This is a non-benefits eligible position, but the University of New Mexico offers a competitive hourly rate of $15.00.
