The University of Miami is in search of a Vascular Sonographer II to join our esteemed team in Miami, Florida.

Position Overview

This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including on-call rotational coverage. The successful candidate will:

  • Manage and coordinate patient scheduling and flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  • Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the guidance of a Clinical Vascular lab Attending or Fellow.
  • Assist in training and educating new physicians.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Vascular Attendings and PhD professionals to develop innovative protocols and ultrasound imaging techniques.
  • Engage in research initiatives and contribute to the development of research protocols.
  • Act as a team leader regularly.
  • Monitor and ensure accurate charging of ultrasound procedures and supplies.
  • Demonstrate ultrasound equipment during site visits for physicians and administrators.
  • Provide in-service training within the section.
  • Review ultrasound orders to ensure appropriateness and accuracy, communicating with physicians as necessary.
  • Establish rapport with patients to identify service requirements.
  • Verify patient identification through electronic medical records and wristbands.
  • Ensure all necessary consents and educational materials are obtained.
  • Perform specialized tasks associated with ultrasound equipment operation, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Integrate diagnostic and laboratory results with patient history to adapt examinations as needed.
  • Maintain high-quality ultrasound standards and demonstrate competence in performing ultrasound scans.
  • Assist in positioning patients appropriately for ultrasound scans, utilizing necessary equipment.
  • Follow aseptic techniques and universal precautions.
  • Prepare and administer contrast as per protocol, ensuring patient safety and consent.
  • Evaluate ultrasound scans for technical quality and accuracy.
  • Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical duties.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist in training new vascular technologists.
  • Provide education to student technologists.
  • Address the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Keep the work area clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Report unusual findings promptly to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental HR policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Support day-to-day operations within the department.

Core Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography and/or Vascular program.
  • Certification: Vascular Ultrasound Certification, RVT (Registered Vascular Tech) by ARDMS, RVS (Registered Vascular Sonographer) by CCI.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
