About the Role

Michael Baker International is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Water team as a Water Resources Modeling Civil Associate. As a key member of our team, you will assist Project Engineers with tasks appropriate for an early career professional, working on a variety of projects in the fields of watershed assessments, planning studies, water supply planning, storm water/drainage way master plans, storm drainage design, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, floodplain mapping studies, and flood control.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Engineers with tasks such as developing and applying scripts and tools to optimize large-scale watershed analyses
  • Explore and develop workflows for engineering studies
  • Develop and apply knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics to support project deliverables
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers and Managers to develop and deliver high-quality project results
  • Contribute to the development of innovative solutions and best practices in water resources modeling and analysis
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or equivalent work experience
  • 0-4 years of related experience in surface water or a related field
  • Fundamental understanding of hydrology and hydraulics
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position, including ArcMap and Hydrologic/Hydraulic models like HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS
  • Experience preparing engineering-related calculations and analyses, analyzing data in spreadsheets and programming tools, and preparing visual aids
  • Experience in 1D and 2D hydraulic modeling and FEMA flood risk studies
  • Strong understanding of statistics and uncertainty
  • Experience and interest in innovation and automation
