POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Registered Nurse is accountable for delivering direct patient care to residents, while overseeing the daily nursing operations conducted by nursing aides.

This oversight must align with existing federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility, as well as directives from the Director of Nursing to guarantee the highest level of quality care is upheld consistently.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the daily activities of nursing assistants. Collaborate with your designated nursing staff and support teams to strategize the services, programs, and activities for the shift. Prepare written and verbal reports/recommendations regarding shift activities as necessary. Facilitate the admission, transfer, and discharge processes for residents as needed. Provide guidance to nursing staff assigned to your unit/shift.
Complete and maintain necessary documentation forms/charts upon the admission, transfer, and/or discharge of residents. Receive and transcribe physician orders via telephone and document on the Physician's Order Form.

Document nursing notes in a clear and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to residents and their responses to that care.

Complete and submit accident/incident reports to the Director as required. Perform routine charting duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by the physician.

Foster and maintain a positive working relationship with inter-departmental personnel and other departments within the facility to ensure nursing services and activities meet residents' needs effectively.

Establish and uphold an environment of warmth, personal interest, and positivity, while ensuring a calm atmosphere throughout the unit and during shifts.

Exchange nursing reports at the beginning and end of each shift. Accompany physicians on rounds as necessary.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICES INCLUDE:

catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, applying and changing dressings/bandages, managing colostomy and drainage bags, performing blood draws, administering massages, and conducting range of motion exercises, among others, as required.

Supervise assigned personnel to ensure compliance with established safety protocols in the use of equipment and supplies.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information. Report any known or suspected breaches of confidentiality.

Ensure that all nursing care is delivered in privacy, and that nursing staff knock before entering residents' rooms.

Provide IV and IV site care as necessary and as permitted by licensure.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, an individual must be capable of fulfilling each essential duty satisfactorily. The following requirements represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary.

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a current, unencumbered state license.
Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language is essential.
Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances require.

Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines relevant to nursing care facilities is required.

Current CPR Certification is mandatory.
Experience in Long Term Care is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Assistance may be required in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
