About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Data Analyst Sr to join our team at the VA Department of Transportation. As a key member of our Data Management Program, you will play a critical role in supporting data initiatives and working with Agile teams to deliver data products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support data stewards from business divisions across the agency, providing strategic and technical leadership for data management activities.
  • Provide training to data stewards and supervise contract resources.
  • Direct, oversee, and support Business Data Stewards and System Owners in their responsibilities.
  • Lead business requirements gathering and support the implementation of data management through the Data Product Line.
  • Guide Business Data Stewards within defined data domains and team with Enterprise Data Stewards in other data domains where there are cross-data domain impacts.
Requirements
  • Ability to proactively identify problem areas and facilitate collaborative problem-solving processes.
  • Demonstrated skill developing and managing large data sets and integrating data from different sources and across different platforms.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of theory and principles of database development, data management, business process improvement, and performance management.
  • Ability to manage complex changes and implement programs, policies, procedures, and long-range goals.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products with strong emphasis on Excel, MS Access, OneNote, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of the interrelationships among project data, including phases, schedules, and estimates.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Demonstrated skill developing and managing large data sets and integrating data from different sources and across different platforms.
  • Knowledge of theory and principles of database development, data management, business process improvement, and performance management.
  • Skill in working with business and financial information systems.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft software with a focus on Access and Excel.
  • Ability to apply logic and reasoning to identify and analyze problem areas and recommend various solutions consistent with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Skill in oral and written communication to build effective relationships.
Additional Considerations
  • Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning, project development, and finance.
  • Experience working with large data sets and experience working in teams to solve complex problems.
  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Information Management Systems, Technology, Communications, or related field desired.
