We are seeking a highly skilled Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer to join our team at Amazon. As a key member of our Database Engineering Team, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining our PostgreSQL database service.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with customers to understand their database challenges and provide expert solutions.
  2. Act as the voice of the customer, bringing learnings to the engineering process to design new features and plan end-to-end test scenarios.

  4. Develop and maintain complex mission-critical production database systems, including PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  5. Design and maintain PostgreSQL relational databases, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
  6. Work directly with customers to resolve database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues, providing systems architecture leadership.
  7. Develop and maintain software solutions to drive efficiencies in software architecture, create metrics, implement automation, and resolve software defects.
  8. Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Work cross-functionally to drive business decisions with technical input, collaborating with product and program managers.

Requirements
  1. 8 years' experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems.
  2. 5 years' experience designing and maintaining PostgreSQL relational databases.
  3. 5 years' experience working directly with customers, resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues.
  4. Awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
  5. Working knowledge of relational database internals, including locking, consistency, serialization, and recovery paths.
  6. Working knowledge of at least one scripting language and one application programming language.
  7. Coding skills in a procedural language for at least one database engine.
  8. Experience supporting large analytical data warehousing databases and migrating databases from commercial engines to PostgreSQL.
  9. Experience migrating application code from commercial database engines to PostgreSQL.
  10. Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
  11. Experience developing extensions or patches for PostgreSQL project or ecosystem.
  12. Software development or consulting experience.
