Overview

We are in search of a resourceful, driven, and adaptable individual to join our team as a Retail Operations Supervisor at our bookstore. This role will assist the Store or General Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our retail establishment. The Retail Operations Supervisor will supervise staff and tasks, engage directly with customers, and play a crucial role in executing the directives of the management team. Proficiency in cash handling, customer service, team development, and problem-solving will be essential in this position.

Responsibilities

As a Retail Operations Supervisor, you will support all aspects of store operations in collaboration with the Store Manager or General Manager. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in purchasing decisions for various departments.
  • Directing operational functions and managing schedules.
  • Delivering outstanding customer service to the academic community while striving to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Identifying business opportunities and motivating the team to enhance bookstore loyalty.
  • Engaging in team management activities, including training, directing, and counseling staff to foster enthusiasm around our products and initiatives.

It will be expected that you drive your team to create memorable customer experiences that yield measurable results.

Expectations:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all store departments to provide daily support and guidance.
  • Assign and oversee work activities for team members to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor to greet customers and assist with their needs.
  • Address customer and employee issues promptly and respectfully.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new employees.
  • Ensure an organized and appealing sales floor through effective merchandising.
  • Process sales transactions accurately, including cash and credit payments.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent movement throughout the store to access various departments.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing.

Our stores adhere to all applicable health guidelines and recommendations regarding social distancing and sanitization. Compliance with campus-specific requirements may necessitate confirmation of vaccination and the use of face masks.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a retail environment.
  • 1+ year of supervisory experience preferred or completion of the Best Seller Program.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with financial and customer service principles.
  • Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills required.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
