Medical Coder - Arbitration Job Description

Maximus is seeking a skilled Medical Coder - Arbitration to join our team in New York and Georgia. This is a remote opportunity that requires strong coding skills and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Abstract and code clinical data with precision and accuracy.
  • Audit medical records to ensure compliance with our coding procedures and standards.
  • Enter coded data into a system and validate the information entered.
  • Research and document correct coding practices to share with colleagues.
  • Review denials and recommend billing corrections to ensure accurate payment.
  • Train staff members on the coding process to ensure consistency and quality.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent with 0-2 years of experience in medical coding.
  • Ability to work a schedule of 8:30am-5pm EST Monday-Friday.
  • DRG coding experience is required, with Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification also required.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and/or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) certifications are preferred, as are Registered Health Information Technician and AHIMA certifications.
  • Medical record review experience and inpatient expertise are highly preferred.
Home Office Requirements:
  • Internet speed of 20mbps or higher is required, with a minimum upload speed of 5mbps.
  • Connectivity to the internet via Wi-Fi or Category 5 or 6 ethernet patch cable to the home router is required.
  • A private work area and adequate power source are necessary.
  • The candidate must currently and permanently reside in the Continental US.
