Job Summary:

The Sanitation Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness across all equipment and facilities, ensuring adherence to sanitation protocols and safety regulations while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position involves the disassembly and reassembly of production machinery, safeguarding sensitive components during the sanitation process.

The Sanitation Technician must be proficient in operating cleaning machinery and applying sanitation chemicals in compliance with regulatory standards.


Education & Experience:

Grade School Level; High School Diploma or GED preferred. 1-2 years of experience in food manufacturing or related fields. Familiarity with sanitation practices involving food processing equipment is advantageous.


Minimum Required Qualifications:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
Effective problem-solving skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
Team-oriented with self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
Comfortable working with water and chemicals.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Capacity to stand for extended periods and perform tasks in various physical positions.
Forklift operation experience is necessary.
Dependable and punctual with flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays.
Adherence to attendance policies and safety regulations is essential.
Compliance with a drug and alcohol-free workplace policy is mandatory.
Familiarity with food safety and third-party certification standards (e.g., SQF, Gluten-Free, Organic) is required.

Training Method:
On-the-job training

General job responsibilities orientation and review of sanitation procedures, including an oral examination on chemical usage within the sanitation department.

Understanding of cleaning processes and recycling practices.
Knowledge of food safety policies (e.g., HACCP, GMPs, Allergens, Organic, Gluten-Free) and injury prevention protocols.

Training will encompass:

Company policies and regulations.

Plant safety and emergency protocols, including OSHA-required safety programs and Lock Out/Tag-Out procedures.

Essential Functions/Duties and Responsibilities:
Consistently perform tasks in alignment with safety and food safety standards.

Ability to learn the cleaning methods for various machinery and the appropriate chemicals for each task.

Rotate cleaning responsibilities daily.
Ensure all electronic devices and panels are protected before commencing wet cleaning in production areas.

Utilize air nozzles in designated areas while adhering to safety protocols, including ear protection and bump caps.

Employ water nozzles in specific locations, ensuring proper PPE (apron, boots, bump cap) is worn.

Verify that all machinery and equipment are thoroughly cleaned and correctly reassembled after sanitation.

Maintain organization by storing cleaning equipment in designated areas.

Follow Lock Out/Tag Out procedures diligently. Ensure mixers and machinery are powered down and secured with safety locks.

Collaborate with team members to efficiently clean machinery as required.

Accurately weigh waste generated by machines to ensure precise waste management.

Report any safety hazards, such as exposed electrical components or loose wiring, to supervisors.

Use ladders or scissor lifts as trained; avoid climbing on machinery for cleaning tasks.
Label all secondary chemical containers according to OSHA-GHS standards.

Operate trash and recycling equipment, notifying supervisors when maximum capacity is reached.

Consistently wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles, hairnets, aprons, and boots (especially in washroom areas).


Janitorial Duties:
May assist with janitorial tasks, including restroom and office area maintenance.
