About the Role

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing general accounting functions for multiple real estate funds and their portfolios of single-family properties. This position is also responsible for cash management, reconciliation of subsidiary accounts, analysis of accounts and transactions, preparing and posting journal entries, and performing month-end close as well as supporting financial statement preparation and lender reporting by performing the following duties.

  • Financial Statement Preparation
    • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Ensure that financial statements are accurate, complete, and in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Cash Management
    • Monitor and manage cash balances across all portfolio bank accounts.
    • Make transfers among accounts as necessary to meet forecast cash requirements.
  • Account Reconciliation
    • Reconcile subsidiary accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of data transfer.
    • Correct errors as needed and identify items for further research and resolution by property managers.
  • Loan Accounting
    • Record monthly waterfall activity.
    • Maintain escrow accounts and submit HOA, property tax, CAPEX, and insurance reimbursement requests.
  • Loan Compliance
    • Develop custom reporting and inquiries utilizing PowerBI, Excel, and accounting systems to satisfy monthly and quarterly reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting with (3) years of real estate and residential property management experience or equivalent.
  • Skills
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries from lenders, regulatory agencies, or other members of the business community.
    • Ability to follow and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and perform cash forecasting, planning, and management.
    • Advanced knowledge of Excel, data import, and data export for additional analysis, proficiency with Pivot tables, including VLOOKUP and other advanced Excel functions.
  • Experience
    • Experience with QuickBooks, Office 365, and PropertyWare, Yardi or a similar property management system is strongly preferred.
