Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Protective Services Professional to join our team at Akron Children's Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment for patients, visitors, and staff by enforcing hospital policies and procedures, as well as local and state laws.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires working variable shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. You will be expected to actively patrol assigned areas of the hospital campus on foot or in a vehicle, checking buildings and surrounding areas for criminal activity or unsafe conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to maintain an orderly and safe environment.
  • Respond to calls for police services, including violent persons, hazardous situations, medical and mental health emergencies, and non-criminal assistance to the campus community.
  • Enforce department policies, procedures, City, State, and Federal law.
  • Observe traffic hazards and recommend corrective actions, investigate traffic accidents, enforce traffic laws and parking violations, assist motorists with disabled vehicles, and direct traffic.
  • Communicate effectively using police radio, computer, email, and telephone.
  • Interact with diverse populations with respect and dignity of cultural norms and practices.
  • Make arrests for violations of laws or ordinances, prepare and file necessary court documents, testify in court, transport prisoners.
  • Interview complainants, victims, witnesses, and suspects, analyze report information to enhance enforcement, investigative or safety efforts and prepare written reports in the record management system.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certifications, enhance skills, and uphold best practices in law enforcement.
  • Foster positive relationships with patients, visitors, and staff, and collaborate to resolve safety concerns and enhance community trust.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Ohio driver's license and reliable transportation to report to alternate sites.
  • Have a current OPOTA Basic Police Academy certification.
  • Meet the department's qualifying firearms standards.
  • Pass a thorough background investigation and psychological evaluation.

We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits and opportunities for professional growth and development.
