POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer within our Infrastructure Design Center, you will collaborate with national leaders and local specialists to deliver mechanical design solutions. This position offers diverse opportunities for growth in both technical design and program management, contributing to significant projects that shape our infrastructure.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also take on the role of Program Manager and Technical Discipline Lead, providing mechanical engineering expertise for projects related to inland navigation, fisheries, and other water resource initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include guiding project teams in the analysis and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, as well as preparing specifications and drawings for various mechanical equipment, including hydraulic systems, gates, and pumping mechanisms.

Projects may involve hydroelectric facilities, dams, navigation locks, and flood control systems.

As a candidate, you should be capable of leading a team of engineers to produce comprehensive plans, specifications, and design documentation necessary for project execution.

Strong technical writing and communication skills are essential.

KEY PROJECTS:

Tetra Tech is tasked with the design of a new 1200-foot lock for the U.S. Inland Waterway Navigation System.

This will involve the design of hydraulic systems, gate operators, and other equipment associated with lock operations.

Retrofitting Existing Navigation Lock Valves:

We will develop a design to upgrade existing culvert valves and their operating machinery, ensuring compatibility with current systems.

This includes creating a new hydraulic power system and valve operator to enhance reliability and performance.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrate expertise in sizing and specifying mechanical equipment to meet project specifications.

Ensure the quality and accuracy of engineering work, adhering to established standards and project timelines while managing budgets effectively.

Provide training and guidance to project teams, mentoring junior engineers.

Act as a technical reviewer or project manager on complex projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.

Facilitate inter-discipline coordination throughout the design process and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders. Assist in proposal preparation, including technical approaches and budgets.

Conduct site visits as necessary for project coordination. Adhere to all health and safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a multidisciplinary design environment is preferred.
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience is required.

Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME, ASTM, NEMA, etc.) is essential. Familiarity with software for Finite Element Analysis, such as SolidWorks, Ansys, and Inventor, is advantageous.

Experience in stress analysis and structural mechanics is a plus, along with hydropower knowledge.
A Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory.

WHAT WE OFFER:

Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, including mechanical, electrical, and structural specialists, to advance projects from design to construction.

Work within an entrepreneurial environment supported by a global company.

Be part of a dedicated team that values work-life balance and encourages innovative problem-solving.

We aim to create a collaborative workspace that promotes excellence and offers opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.

The salary range for this position is approximately $140,000 to $205,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
