Hughes, a leading provider of satellite products and services, is seeking a highly skilled Avionics Systems Engineer to join our team in Germantown, MD or Lisle, IL.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced electrical engineer with a focus on avionics to design and develop electrical systems and avionics for our broadband internet connectivity product. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that our designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and design electrical, avionics, connectors, and related systems for our broadband internet connectivity product.
  • Select and source electrical components and materials, considering factors such as reliability, durability, and compatibility with aviation standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical systems into the overall aircraft design.
  • Develop test plans and procedures, oversee testing activities, and analyze test results to verify the performance and safety of electrical systems.
  • Stay up to date with aviation regulations and certification requirements, and ensure that all electrical systems meet relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with electrical systems, and develop contingency plans to address unexpected issues.
  • Lead and mentor junior electrical engineers, providing guidance and expertise in electrical engineering principles and aviation-specific knowledge.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aviation, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on aviation or aerospace.
  • Strong knowledge of aviation regulations and standards (e.g. FAA, EASA) and experience with aircraft design methodologies.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific tools and technologies (DO-254, DO-160).
  • A strong working knowledge of the STC process.
