About the Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Efficiency Engineer to join our Amazon Performance Optimization team. As a key member of this team, you will play a critical role in identifying and solving performance and efficiency problems that manifest at scale. You will collaborate with service teams across Amazon to design and implement solutions that drive cost savings and improve the overall efficiency of our software stack.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Efficiency Engineer, you will work closely with software teams to learn, innovate, and lead a team of engineers to enhance the performance and efficiency of software solutions. You will search for, uncover, and improve software and architecture inefficiencies in the vast Amazon ecosystem, resulting in millions of dollars of savings in infrastructure costs. You will invent, define, collect, aggregate, and analyze various efficiency metrics, and use them to set and drive efficiency goals for Amazon and service teams.

Responsibilities:

  1. Solve performance and efficiency problems that manifest at scale.
  2. Design metrics and measure performance and cost efficiency of services in Amazon's ecosystem.
  3. Collaborate with service teams to identify inefficiencies, and design and implement solutions.
  4. Design and develop highly available components and profiling tools.
  5. Lead and mentor a team of engineers.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
