Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Operative Preparation
    • Verify instrument and supply availability and readiness per physician preference card.
    • Assist in opening sterile supplies and instruments.
    • Prepare the surgical field and supplies/instruments delivered to the field.
  • Scrub Role
    • Perform duties in the scrub role as assigned.
    • Assist in emergency situations as assigned.
    • Maintain a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards.
  • Post-Operative Care
    • Assist with clean-up and turnover upon completion of case.
    • Efficiently utilize supplies to avoid waste and decrease costs.
  • Collaboration and Communication
    • Collaborate with healthcare team to provide for a cooperative work environment.
    • Share clinical and professional knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
  • Compliance and Professional Growth
    • Maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Utilize guest relation techniques with members of healthcare team and patients.
    • Demonstrate self-direction in maintaining professional skills.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification
    • Surgical Technologist licensure.
    • CST Certification approved by NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
  • Education and Experience
    • High school graduate or GED.
    • Completion of ST program in an accredited school approved by NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).
    • 1-2 years OR scrub experience (preferred).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to independently perform scrub duties.
    • CPR certification.
Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening disease and radiation.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others.
  • Ability to work in a stressful, changing environment.
  • Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to assume on-call responsibility.
