Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic Trainee to join our team in the Fleet Services Department. As a Mechanic Trainee, you will assist in performing skilled service, maintenance, and repair work on automotive and related equipment. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical skills and work with a team of experienced professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in performing skilled service, maintenance, and repair work on automotive and related equipment
  • Work with a team of experienced professionals to develop your technical skills
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on equipment
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical problems
  • Servicing heavy equipment
Requirements
  • Three years of experience as a journey-level mechanic
  • Three years of experience with the City of Mesa as an Equipment Repair Assistant or an Equipment Mechanic I Trainee
  • Ability to obtain fire apparatus Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) E-0, E-1, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A4, and A5 certifications within two years of hire
  • Ability to obtain a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date
  • Ability to meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.134 by hire or promotion date
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a General Automotive Mechanic
  • ASE certifications in Suspension and Steering A-4, Brakes A-5, Electrical/Electronic Systems A-6, and Engine Performance A-8
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work flexible hours, including shift work that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees in Fleet Services may be assigned a shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees in Fire Maintenance may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Work is subject to rotational stand-by.
