Position Overview:

This role includes a sign-on bonus of $50,000.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations utilizing a wide range of optometric tools and methodologies.
  • Identify and diagnose visual impairments, diseases, and deficiencies, prescribing appropriate treatments in accordance with state regulations.
  • Fit and prescribe contact lenses as necessary.
  • Assess the visual needs of patients with partial sight.
  • Recommend low-vision aids such as magnifiers and specialized lenses to assist patients with limited vision.
  • Administer diagnostic pharmaceutical agents to identify ocular conditions as permitted by state law.
  • Utilize examination techniques to recognize ocular indicators of systemic health issues.
  • Refer patients to relevant Kaiser Permanente specialists for additional evaluation and care.
  • Engage in departmental meetings and educational sessions, including peer review activities.
  • Collaborate with internal medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology regarding patient care matters.
  • Support the development and delivery of eye care educational programs for staff and patients.
  • In partnership with an ophthalmologist, evaluate and manage anterior segment disorders under physician standing orders.
Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday with rotating Saturdays, one day off every other week. Travel to various optometry centers may be required based on operational needs.


Qualifications:

Experience: Not applicable.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Optometry program.
  • Enrollment in PECOS within 90 days of employment.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Optometrist License in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required at hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least two years of experience in a collaborative healthcare setting or completion of an accredited residency program.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Optometry is preferred.
