Position Overview:

Under the guidance of the Laboratory Coordinator or Manager, the Clinical Laboratory Specialist plays a crucial role in the precise analytical assessment of blood and various bodily fluids. It is imperative that all evaluations are conducted with utmost accuracy and reliability. The Specialist must possess a comprehensive understanding of laboratory equipment, including its operation, upkeep, and troubleshooting capabilities. Responsibilities also include executing and documenting quality control measures.

Key Qualifications:

Credentials:
* Certification as a Medical Technologist (consideration for certification eligibility is available, but certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment).

Education:
* Bachelor of Science degree.

Experience:
Minimum of one year of training in an accredited medical technology program or three years of laboratory experience under the supervision of a board-certified pathologist. The ideal candidate will exemplify performance standards such as ownership, teamwork, communication, and compassion, all of which contribute to patient satisfaction and service excellence.

Responsibilities:

1. Collect specimens and conduct evaluations on waived, moderately complex, and highly complex laboratory analyses of blood and other bodily fluids.
2. Perform maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
3. Execute and assess quality control and proficiency testing protocols.
4. Investigate and resolve anomalies and unusual circumstances, ensuring that patient test results are only reported after all corrective measures have been implemented and the testing system is functioning optimally.
5. Utilize laboratory and medical center computer systems for daily operations.
6. Engage in educational programs both within the laboratory and externally to uphold the highest competency standards in patient care.
7. Participate in the training and education of students from accredited programs and new staff members.
8. Contribute to the annual evaluations and documentation of competencies for all testing personnel.
9. Assess and implement new methodologies and procedures as directed by management.
10. Ensure compliance with standards established by the medical center and relevant regulatory/accrediting bodies.
11. Collaborate with medical center personnel, physicians, and staff from other facilities regarding test results and procedural information.
12. Maintain an adequate inventory of reagents and supplies necessary for testing.
13. Provide guidance and support to fellow staff members as required.
14. Generate and maintain necessary documentation for testing and support procedures.
