Position: Quality Assurance Manager

SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the quality testing and sensory evaluation of coffee products. This role includes managing data collection, entry, and overall data management related to the quality management system. The individual will supervise all quality technicians at the facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct sensory evaluations and approve green coffee samples and receipts prior to their use, as well as samples from roasting and competitors.
- Manage the development and execution of quality assurance testing procedures, including coffee grind analysis, roast color assessment, package weight and scale checks, residual oxygen tests, moisture analysis, and flavor analysis.
- Alert the Head of Food Safety and Quality regarding any product issues or inconsistencies that cannot be immediately rectified, collaborating with the quality team to implement effective corrective and preventive measures.
- Assume responsibilities for the duties of the Quality Assurance Supervisor's assistants.
- Investigate customer complaints related to quality or food safety, reporting findings to senior management.
- Support the production supervisor in optimizing human resources by motivating production machine operators.
- Collect, enter, and manage data promptly and accurately.
- Serve as a backup for the SQF Practitioner and assist in all relevant food safety initiatives, including internal and external audits.
- Promote a culture of food safety throughout the organization, ensuring adherence to food safety protocols by all staff.
- Assist in various other areas as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
An Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred certifications include HACCP and PCQI, with a willingness to obtain these within six months of hire if not currently certified.
Experience in food manufacturing and familiarity with GFSI benchmarked food safety certification schemes (e.g., SQF, BRC) is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Proficient in writing routine correspondence and speaking effectively before groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and apply concepts of algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires regular standing, walking, and the use of hands for handling objects and tools. Occasional stooping, kneeling, and lifting of up to 50 pounds may be necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment involves regular exposure to moving parts and electrical machines, with occasional exposure to airborne particles and extreme temperatures. Hearing protection is provided as needed.
