Job Summary:

The Urology Registered Nurse is responsible for administering urodynamics testing to patients to evaluate their urinary system functions at Urology Austin.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient advocate - ensures a setting that protects the rights of the patient and provides an atmosphere that does not compromise the patients' physical or mental well-being, safety or dignity.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology, patient care standards as dictated by the nursing licensing board of the State of Texas, and standard knowledge of basic CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Under supervision of the physician, responsible for the proper utilization of materials, records, and equipment in performing duties assigned to him / her and maintaining patient records.
  • Arranges equipment and supplies essential for the urodynamics procedure. Administers the urodynamics testing to both female and male patients. Continually monitor patients' status and machine function. Provides a post-assessment follow-up to the patient.
  • Under supervision of physician, reports urodynamics testing results and studies to the referring physician in a timely manner and verifies physicians are informed of significant information.
  • Collaborates with other health care professionals regarding unusual situations and seeks assistance as indicated.
  • The duties of this position may include cross training in other functions or positions to ensure satisfactory operation of the clinic or to permit flexible staffing assignments.
  • Coordinates with clinic's supply personnel or completes orders for all materials needed for daily operations of urodynamics testing.
  • Assists with vendor selection for new equipment based on clinics need.
  • Accurately records and maintains documentation of telephone encounters and on-site patient conversations, including chief complaint, verbal history of present illness with date of onset, symptoms including pain, bleeding and retention assessment, update of medications and allergies, and limited physical examination, adhering to scope of practice guidelines of the State of Texas
  • Conveys relevant information to physician and staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Under the supervision of the physician and/or advanced practice provider, relays practitioner assessment and treatment plan to patient or designated family member, adhering to the scope of practice guidelines of the State of Texas.
  • Communicates with new patients to explain the urodynamics test and answers patient questions using the nursing process as a guide for actions.
  • Documents relevant material in medical record and forwards pertinent notes to physician and/or advanced practice provider for review and signature, as well as referring physician.
  • Instructs patients on procedures, studies and consults.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific appropriate care.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative confidentiality with the practice and the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
