Job Summary

As a Perfusion Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting patients' cardiopulmonary systems in various medical situations. You will operate extracorporeal circulatory and/or cardiopulmonary support equipment, working closely with physicians to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the heart-lung machine during cardiopulmonary bypass, ensuring a safe and efficient process.
  • Display competent and acceptable techniques, adhering to departmental standards.
  • Assemble and maintain cardiopulmonary support equipment, including the heart-lung machine, cell saver, and intra-aortic balloon pump.
  • Monitor patients' status during bypass and other procedures, tracking parameters such as anticoagulation, temperature, blood pressures, and EKG.
  • Set up and operate the intra-aortic balloon pump, troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Supervise perfusion assistants in the performance of intra-aortic balloon pumping and autotransfusion.
  • Perform various modes of autotransfusion, including hemoconcentration, surgical cell salvaging, and postoperative wound drainage.
  • Operate ancillary devices, such as vascular flow computers and coagulopathy monitoring devices.
  • Preoperatively evaluate patients, implementing changes as directed by attending physicians.
  • Perform safety checks on equipment and maintain accurate records of procedures.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new perfusion personnel.
Requirements
  • Perfusionist certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion within two years of employment.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

This is a full-time regular position at Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV.
