Your Role
The Silicon Fabrication Process Engineering I division is seeking a seasoned Electronics/Diffusion Process Engineer to support our silicon fabrication operations.

As part of a vibrant team of leaders, engineers, and technologists, you will engage in innovative process development and wafer processing within a low-volume production and prototyping environment that supports critical national security initiatives.

A successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Developing and refining diffusion processes for microelectronics device fabrication tailored to production and research customers.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to establish process requirements and specifications.
  • Conducting experiments and trials to assess and enhance diffusion techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Analyzing process data and performing root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Implementing process control strategies to ensure consistent and reliable diffusion outcomes.
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting diffusion equipment to ensure peak performance.
  • Staying informed on industry advancements in diffusion technology to foster continuous improvement.
  • Documenting process development activities, including workflows, instructions, and technical reports.
  • Providing technical guidance and training to production personnel and fellow engineers.

Due to the nature of the role, the selected candidate must be available for onsite work.

Salary Range
$109,300 - $217,400
*This salary range is an estimate, with the final salary determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Qualifications Required
Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Optics, Chemistry, or a related STEM field, along with four (4) or more years of relevant experience.

Experience in CMOS semiconductor thin film fabrication processes is essential.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance is required.

Qualifications Desired
A PhD in the aforementioned fields is preferred.

Direct Experience:
Experience in a production environment and troubleshooting semiconductor tools and equipment is highly valued.

About Our Team
Sandia National Laboratories' Microsystems and Engineering Sciences Applications (MESA) complex offers unparalleled processing capabilities in semiconductor microfabrication. The MESAFab Operations departments are dedicated to developing and maintaining core semiconductor processing capabilities that empower our customers to create innovative Microsystems products.

Our facilities include a Class 1 Silicon Fab for 6-inch silicon wafer processing and a MicroFab for compound semiconductor material processing.

Key processing areas encompass photolithography, reactive ion etching, wet etching/cleaning, oxidation and diffusion, thin films, and more.

We provide unique prototyping capabilities and are equipped to handle full flow production lots as well as flexible process development.

Security Clearance
Sandia is mandated by the DOE to conduct pre-employment drug tests and background checks. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which necessitates U.S. citizenship.
