About the Role
The Pharmacy Technician at Northwestern Medicine reflects the organization's mission, vision, and values, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program. This role requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Fill medications, surgical kits, and emergency crash carts, and requisition specialty items.
- Prepare sterile compounds and IV admixtures for injection and infusion, including hazardous medications, chemotherapy, and biologics.
- Fulfill patient medication orders, labeling and packaging medications according to a computer-generated profile.
- Maintain inventory of automated dispensing cabinets, rotating stock to reduce outdated medications.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies.
- Handle controlled substances, including security, reconciliation, and accounting for transactions.
- Enter patient charges and credit information into the computer.
- Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR).
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through PTCB or NHA required for all licensed after 2008.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year or less of related work experience, demonstrating familiarity with routines and procedures customary to the position.
