Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Recreation Specialist to join our team at Children's Rescue Fund. As a Recreation Specialist, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting recreational activities for clients and their children in temporary shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recreational programs for families in temporary shelter, including activities such as homemaking, healthy eating, and financial empowerment.
  • Establish partnerships with external recreational programs and facilities to provide opportunities for clients and their children.
  • Coordinate field trips and special events, ensuring a safe and structured environment for all participants.
  • Work with community providers to develop recreational opportunities for clients, including programs such as Big Buddy and PAL.
  • Maintain contact with museums, theaters, and other cultural programs to facilitate awareness and attendance of special events.
  • Escort families to events and ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Organize and coordinate parent/escort volunteer groups.
  • Manage time effectively and coordinate program activities accordingly.
  • Coordinate transportation services to and from events as needed.
  • Maintain logs of all activities and submit reports as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-hour Mandated Reporter training course completion (can be completed upon hire).
  • At least 6 months of related work experience.
  • Able to work evening and weekends as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
Working Conditions
  • May be required to work long hours and a varied schedule.
  • Travelling throughout various locations in the New York City area.
  • Climatic issues of temperature variance and ventilation association with resident facility impact delivery of services.
  • Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds several times a week.
