Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Clinical and Surgical Support Specialist to provide critical veterinary clinical and surgical support for nonhuman primates used for research at the University of Washington's National Primate Research Center. As a vital member of our team, you will perform specialized work related to the development, performance, and management of research and clinical surgeries of nonhuman primates. Your strong clinical and surgical veterinary skills, ability to collaborate with investigators, and exceptional organizational skills make you an ideal candidate for this role.

The primary duties of this position include:
  • Performing routine research clinical and surgical procedures, including vascular catheter implantation, laparoscopy, laparotomy, thoracotomy, craniotomy, cranial implantation, and removal surgeries.
  • Providing guidance to clinical and surgical support staff on instrumentation, sanitation practices, and clinical and surgical suite maintenance.
  • Maintaining clinical records in a custom electronic database, the Animal Research Management System (ARMS).

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from a College of Veterinary Medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Association or have a certificate issued by the American Veterinary Association's Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates. Additionally, you should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency in the use of computers, and the ability to obtain a license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Washington.
