Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Code Enforcement Specialist to join our team at the Institute for Building Technology and Safety. As a Code Enforcement Specialist, you will be responsible for enforcing city codes and ordinances related to signs, housing, litter, overgrowth, abandoned vehicles, rubbish, and other code violations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of houses and property to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Interpret and enforce the provisions of city codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Respond to complaints and questions related to code enforcement issues.
  • Research problems and initiate problem resolution.
  • Communicate with property owners, landlords, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve code enforcement issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspection activities and prepare reports as needed.
  • Perform other work as required by the Program Director.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.
  • Three years of experience in code inspection, construction inspection, building construction work, or other closely related field.
  • Proficiency in operating a computer and experience using programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Business letter writing experience.

  • Knowledge of city, state, and federal regulations.
  • Skill in the safe operation of a light motor vehicle.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare periodic reports.
  • Ability to interpret and explain various codes to the public.
