About the Job
As a Dental Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a vital role in maintaining the oral health of our nation's defenders. Your primary responsibility will be to provide dental care and instruction to patients, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment.
Your duties will include preparing dental operatory equipment, assisting dentists during patient exams, and administering anesthesia. You will also be responsible for preparing restorative and impression materials, as well as assisting with placement and removal of sutures.
In addition to your clinical skills, you will also learn radiology techniques, dental hygiene procedures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. You will be trained to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing patient care and safety.
Through your training, you will develop the skills and experience to pursue a civilian career in dental offices or clinics. With additional study, you may qualify for certification as a registered dental assistant or certified dental assistant.
What You'll Learn
• Preventive dentistry techniques
• Dental office procedures and protocols
• Radiology (X-ray) techniques and safety procedures
• Dental hygiene procedures and patient education
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency response
Requirements and Qualifications
• Interest in biology and chemistry
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and instructions
• Good hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
Training and Education
Job training for Dental Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and seven weeks and 3 days of Advanced Individual Training. Training will include both classroom and field work, preparing you for a successful career in dental care.
