Position Overview

As a Creative Therapy Specialist at JEMCARE LLC, you will play a vital role in supporting children and young adults in navigating their emotions through innovative therapeutic methods. This position emphasizes the use of artistic and playful techniques to foster emotional expression and understanding, particularly during challenging times such as chronic illnesses or trauma.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize various expressive modalities, including music, art, and play, to facilitate the exploration of patients' emotions and promote self-awareness.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding the advantages and applications of expressive therapies in everyday life.
  • Develop therapeutic objectives and goals tailored to individual sessions focused on creative or expressive art therapy.
  • Organize and lead engaging expressive activities aimed at recreation and emotional healing.
  • Deliver patient care through structured expressive therapy sessions.
  • Incorporate interactive and creative activities to assist individuals in coping with life transitions, trauma, and other challenges.
  • Guide children in recognizing and articulating their feelings through various expressive techniques.
  • Manage a caseload effectively, ensuring precise and timely assessments, planning, implementation, and documentation of therapy sessions.
  • Act as an advocate for patients in relation to their expressive therapy needs.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Certification as a Child Life Specialist through the Child Life Council; OR
  • Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the State of New York; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program recognized by the NYS Education Department; OR
  • Master's Degree in Play Therapy from a program recognized by the State of New York Education Department; OR
  • Current Play Therapist Registration from the Association for Play Therapy (Expressive Therapy: Art, Music, and Play).

Additionally, candidates should possess a minimum of one year of experience working with medically fragile populations and at least one year of clinical experience in pediatric care, particularly in end-of-life situations. A background check is mandatory.
