Job Overview

Position Summary

The Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services will operate under the guidance of the Director of Pharmacy Administration (DPA) to achieve shared objectives with the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) and DPA. This role focuses on managing the healthcare needs of high-risk patients through a collaborative approach between clinical and pharmacy departments. The manager will oversee daily operations of the Preventive Diabetes Services and Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) services available to eligible patients at Tampa Family Health Centers.

The clinical pharmacist will tailor patient care to effectively manage their health conditions through comprehensive counseling, adherence discussions, and lifestyle modifications, thus providing a wide range of healthcare services known as Medication Therapy Management (MTM). Collaboration with the pharmacy department, clinical team, Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs, and billing/coding department is essential to enhance the overall quality of care for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the MTM Clinical Pharmacy Department, Preventive Diabetes Services, and DSMES.
  • Ensure ADA Recognition and participate in evaluating the effectiveness of DSMES services.
  • Monitor and facilitate the qualifications of DSMES team members, including continuing education credits, training, and licensure.
  • Act as a liaison among DSMES team members, the Advisory Group, other departments, and administration.
  • Maintain Collaborative Practice Agreements (CPA).
  • Recommend therapy adjustments, request laboratory tests as needed, and provide clinical suggestions to both providers and patients.
  • Manage staff, mentor students, and train new employees.
  • Serve as a resource for clinical and pharmacy staff regarding medication inquiries.
  • Document in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and manage billing/coding for services rendered.
  • Handle prior authorizations, adherence outreach, and other proactive pharmacy care initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Valid and active State of Florida Pharmacist License.
  • Certification to Administer Immunizations from the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree required.
  • Completion of 340B University ONDEMAND Statement of Completion Certificate within the first two weeks of employment.
  • Annual completion of 340B University renewal course, Peer Review, and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training.
  • Maintain a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification and/or one year of residency in an ASHP-accredited Community Pharmacy or Ambulatory Care program.
  • CPA certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of managerial experience in MTM, outpatient services, or pharmacy billing.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in navigating and entering data in RX30 and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Experience with MTM programs such as Outcomes and Mirita or similar software.
  • Background in Community Pharmacy/Retail Pharmacy with a willingness to work as needed.
  • Understanding of the Prior Authorization process for drug approvals with third-party payers.
  • Excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English.
