This role acts as a vital extension of the UHS Central Billing Office (CBO), embedded within the UHS Market to support specific initiatives that optimize the entire revenue cycle process. The Revenue Cycle Specialist is dedicated to refining and expediting revenue cycle functions to achieve increased efficiency, quicker payments, reduced rework, and enhanced patient service by partnering with leadership and staff to advocate for best practices throughout UHS.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison between the Central Billing Office (CBO) and healthcare practices regarding front-end billing operations, reimbursement patterns, and essential training requirements. Conducts monthly meetings with practice leadership to analyze month-end performance reports, recommending improvements and implementing collaborative action plans to enhance cash collections, minimize charge lag, and improve registration accuracy while reducing front-end denials.
  • Monitors the performance of front-end billing tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to ensure alignment with revenue-related objectives. Identifies and escalates any adverse trends to the appropriate personnel, discussing these trends with local leadership to uncover root causes and collaboratively develop strategies for improvement.
  • Proactively identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves issues related to front-end revenue that may hinder revenue maximization. Actively listens to feedback from practices and advocates for changes to existing workflows and system processes on behalf of all UHS Markets. Participates in CBO meetings to share market-specific initiatives, best practices, and challenges, ensuring a comprehensive approach to problem-solving.
  • Responsible for onboarding and facilitating specific revenue cycle processes in new UHS practices and their leadership. Engages in pre-acquisition discussions to address revenue cycle processes and provides necessary support during the acclimation phase, participating in post-implementation meetings.
  • Collaborates with EMR Specialists to ensure consistent and coherent charge capture processes within the EMR and their impact on the practice management system. Assists in resolving suspended charges related to front-end or EMR issues.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

An Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of coursework and relevant experience is required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of healthcare billing, including CPT/ICD-10 coding, claim submission requirements, and related industry terminology. A thorough understanding of registration data requirements and health plan payors, along with a comprehensive grasp of the revenue cycle and its interconnected components.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven presentation abilities and the capacity to perform well under pressure. Results-driven with a history of task completion, adept at multitasking, meeting deadlines, and being responsive. Project management experience is a plus. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and computer literacy skills are essential.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a healthcare billing, health insurance, or similar operational environment. Experience in client-facing roles, project management, and customer service is highly desirable.
  • Willingness to travel locally to market-based practices is required (minimum 75% of the time).
As a member of UHS, you will join a premier organization that offers:
  • A rewarding and challenging work environment.
  • Competitive compensation and generous paid time off.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plans.
  • 401(K) with company matching.
  • Tuition reimbursement and more.
