Role Overview: The Citywide Equity and Inclusion (CEI) division is dedicated to guiding city agencies in the implementation of non-discrimination policies and fostering an inclusive workplace. This position is part of the Investigations and Compliance Unit, which is crucial for maintaining adherence to EEO standards across various agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with agency EEO personnel, offering expert guidance on EEO policy interpretation and investigative procedures.
  • Evaluate complaints and inquiries from city employees, taking appropriate actions to address concerns.
  • Oversee complex EEO investigations from initiation to resolution, ensuring compliance with established mandates.
  • Draft comprehensive investigative reports that are well-reasoned and fact-based, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Lead high-level CEI projects and initiatives that promote equity and inclusion.
  • Supervise junior staff, including attorneys and interns, ensuring effective team performance.
  • Exercise sound judgment in navigating challenges throughout the investigative process, collaborating with relevant authorities as necessary.
  • Conduct regular reviews of agency EEO practices and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Analyze trends in complaint data to provide strategic guidance for improving workplace culture.
  • Develop and implement policies to enhance compliance with EEO and diversity initiatives.
  • Facilitate training sessions on investigative protocols and EEO-related topics.
  • Engage in legal research related to EEO and employment law to inform best practices.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions with city officials and stakeholders as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • One year of legal experience post-admission or six months of service as an Agency Attorney Intern.

Preferred Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of laws and regulations pertaining to equal employment opportunity and workplace discrimination.
  • Experience in conducting complex investigations and applying due process principles.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing EEO compliance policies.
