Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at the Indian Health Service. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare medications for dispensing and administration
  • Process pharmacy claims online to health insurance carriers
  • Manage the daily operation of the pharmacy telephone refill system
  • Perform computer data entry using various types of software
  • Restock medication, rotate stock, and store medications correctly
Requirements
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level
  • Specialized experience includes skill in recognizing appropriate auxiliary earnings and packaging requirements of drugs dispensed, assisting pharmacy staff in filling outpatient prescriptions under a pharmacist's supervision, or successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study in pharmacy or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses
  • General experience includes any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation
Working Conditions

This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit and has promotion potential to the GS-06 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.

What We Offer

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.
