POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is designed to deliver exceptional therapeutic services through creative arts modalities, including art, music, and movement, to students diagnosed with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder. The focus is on enhancing functional life skills, communication abilities, social interactions, behavioral coping strategies, motor skills, and self-regulation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are essential to the role:

  1. Conduct both group and individual creative arts therapy sessions daily according to the established school and therapy schedule.
  2. Facilitate small group instruction tailored to students on the autism spectrum and those with intellectual disabilities, ensuring comprehension and advancement in the creative arts curriculum.
  3. Engage in collaboration with the educational team to provide ongoing recommendations throughout the academic year.
  4. Manage therapy cancellations by obtaining necessary approvals and communicating with relevant personnel.
  5. Prepare and submit supply requests to the appropriate administrative personnel in advance of needs.
  6. Support classrooms during extracurricular activities and community-based learning experiences as required.
  7. Maintain open lines of communication with teachers, related service teams, case managers, and families regarding student progress.
  8. Offer resources and recommendations to classrooms, including modeling effective strategies and assessing student needs.
  9. Oversee the inventory of therapeutic supplies and plan for budgetary needs.
  10. Collaborate with the therapy team to ensure cohesive service delivery across various environments.
  11. Participate in regular meetings to discuss student strengths, progress, and strategies for improvement.
  12. Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in creative arts therapy.
  13. Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment that respects and celebrates student diversity.
  14. Adhere to ethical standards and comply with all relevant regulations affecting therapy practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's degree in Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, or a related field is preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy or equivalent is required. Current registration or board certification is necessary. Candidates should possess or be able to obtain a Professional Educator License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, as well as the capability to lift and assist students as needed. The work environment may involve exposure to various stimuli, and accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
