Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Cost Analyst plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service to clients and prospective customers throughout the quoting and estimation phases. This position is essential for ensuring that all communications are professional, prompt, and timely, while also providing competitive pricing options and thorough follow-up to guarantee comprehensive order entries. The effectiveness of the analyst is measured by their customer service quality, quote output, and overall sales performance.

Key Responsibilities: This list is not exhaustive

  • Gather, comprehend, and evaluate customer requirements; transform these needs into accurate production cost estimates, inclusive of labor and equipment.
  • Review documentation (including industrial prints, drawings, change orders, and specifications) to confirm the completeness and accuracy of the information.
  • Engage with document creators or the customer's engineering representatives to resolve discrepancies and implement necessary changes.
  • Assess customer needs against our capabilities to determine feasibility and identify necessary adjustments to meet expectations.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and external resources to gather information essential for precise cost estimation.
  • Confirm tooling availability and seek quotations for new or additional tooling, documenting costs associated with RFQs.
  • Generate and present competitive pricing proposals to clients promptly.
  • Maintain timely follow-up communications with customers regarding quote statuses, report customer feedback to relevant personnel, and gather insights on performance.
  • Offer suggestions on the viability of alternative methods, modifications, or equipment replacements to enhance quality or reduce costs.
  • Investigate issues and initiate effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Review completed quotes prior to submission to clients.
  • Accurately enter sales orders.
  • Create detailed work order routers that encompass all customer and product specifications.
  • Monitor quote success rates and sales performance, striving for continuous improvement.
  • Achieve or exceed sales targets while maintaining a healthy profit margin.
  • Keep abreast of Sharpe's manufacturing capabilities, limitations, and industry trends.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient knowledge in manufacturing, particularly within the metal fabrication sector.
  • A minimum of two years of successful experience as an estimator in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to interpret industrial part prints and drawings.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, and unit conversions.
  • Proficient in computer applications: web navigation, document scanning, typing, Excel, Word, Outlook, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations while ensuring timely order entry and accuracy.
  • Logical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Capable of safely navigating the production area for research and investigation purposes.

Work Environment:

This position operates within a professional office environment. The role frequently utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Occasionally, it may be necessary to visit the production floor to consult with management or staff. Employees may encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations, with a noise level that can be loud. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while in the production area.
