  • The Division of Adult Acute Care is the largest team responsible for admitting patients to the general medicine service at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals. Our diverse patient population includes individuals of all ages facing a variety of complex health conditions requiring compassionate and expert nursing care.

Role Expectations for Professional Staff Nurses

The Professional Staff Nurse is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care while demonstrating empathy and a commitment to continuous learning. This role necessitates independent decision-making, effective communication, and collaborative partnerships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

As a Professional Staff Nurse, you will set the standard for nursing care quality and possess the authority and accountability for its delivery. Your dedication to the community and the nursing profession will be evident in all aspects of your work.

  • Sign-On Bonus of up to $15,000 for Graduate Nurses (amount and eligibility depend on the nursing role and candidate experience).

Work Schedule: Our RNs operate on a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before commencing this role or must obtain a Temporary Practice Permit and achieve licensure within four months of starting the position. Candidates will be assigned the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual qualifications and experience.

  • BSN preferred.
  • Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients of varying ages.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills are essential for effective patient care.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.

Licensure and Certifications Required:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Basic Life Support or CPR certification required.
  • Completion of licensure examination within four months of hire.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
