As a Literacy Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in enhancing the reading abilities of numerous children, providing essential support to those who require additional assistance in achieving grade-level reading.

Engage within a local educational environment, assisting students from kindergarten to third grade through individualized or paired instruction to bolster their reading skills.

Your dedication during school hours throughout the academic year will ensure a significant difference in the lives of young learners.

With comprehensive training and on-site mentorship, you will be well-prepared to help children flourish.

Your Responsibilities:

Be a supportive adult who aids students in developing their skills and self-assurance.

Monitor student progress and regularly consult with the school's on-site mentor.

Administer skill evaluations and record student performance in data management software.

Commit to your own development as a specialist through coaching, training, and professional growth opportunities.

Represent Reading Corps at school functions and share your experiences with the community to enhance awareness.

Anyone can become a specialist as long as they possess a passion for making a difference and meet the following minimum qualifications.

By the time they commence their service, our specialists are:

Reliable with a record of good attendance

Able to comprehend and follow directions

Open to improvement based on constructive feedback

Capable of maintaining a schedule and pace with students

Proficient in basic computer skills (such as email and online navigation)

Fluent in English for speaking, reading, and writing

At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent

A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States

Able to successfully pass a background check.

Compensation & Benefits:


While you are making a difference, you will receive a stipend every two weeks along with additional benefits. As an AmeriCorps program, we offer both federally provided benefits and program-specific perks.


Federal Benefits include:


Up to $ in Education Award (Segal AmeriCorps Education Award) which can be utilized for tuition or to repay qualified student loans.

Individuals aged 55 and older at the start of their service term may transfer their award to a family member.

Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.

Accrual of time toward .

Program Specific Benefits based on weekly commitment:

35 Hours: $1000 stipend paid bi-weekly.

Individual health insurance monthly premium fully covered.

Child care assistance based on family size and income.

25 Hours: $750 stipend paid bi-weekly.

18 Hours: $535 stipend paid bi-weekly.

10 Hours: $350 stipend paid bi-weekly.
