We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our Critical Care Service Line at the Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality respiratory care to critically ill patients, working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement effective care plans.
Responsibilities- Provide all ordered modalities of care, including therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, equipment selection and setup, and patient transport.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
- Perform advanced airway and ventilation management, including endotracheal suctioning, oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal suctioning, sputum induction, tracheal lavage, and securing of nasal or oral endotracheal tubes or tracheostomies.
- Monitor patient status, including vital signs, arterial blood gases, and chest auscultation, and report any changes to the responsible physician immediately.
- Participate in bedside training of physicians-in-training and medical residents, providing education and guidance on respiratory care.
- United States Citizenship
- Graduation from a respiratory care program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)
- Active license and RRT credential
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and adapt to changing situations
This position requires extensive interaction with patients, staff, physicians, family members, and visitors. You will be required to work in all patient care areas, including in-patient and outpatient settings, and may be required to lift, push, or pull moderate heavy objects (15-44lbs). You must be able to handle varying levels of stress in a positive manner.
This is a full-time position, and you will be required to work rotating days/shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. You will not be eligible for telework or virtual work arrangements.
