Meter Shop Technician

The City of Lubbock is seeking a skilled Meter Shop Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Water Utilities and Public Works department, you will be responsible for maintaining a supply of standard parts and supplies. This includes receiving and storing supplies, maintaining records of parts and supplies received and dispersed, and monitoring inventory levels. You will also be responsible for coding, entering, and filing invoices, as well as entering work orders and compiling materials and labor costs. Additionally, you will run standard reports for state reporting, obtain price quotes, order parts and supplies, and schedule maintenance and repair services. You will provide customer service on advanced metering infrastructure and the fire hydrant meter program.
Responsibilities
Collects, compiles, and enters inventory data in a database
Prepares related reports from records
Processes paperwork, including packing lists and invoices
Submits a variety of information, including materials and labor costs
Obtains price quotes and orders parts and supplies
Schedules or performs maintenance and repair services
Determines the appropriate location of inventory items and supplies
Performs routine inventory counts
Interacts with customers and administers the fire hydrant meter program
Processes and prepares returned material authorizations and outgoing shipments
May perform a variety of support duties, including telephone calls, filing, and dispatching
Prepares end-of-life inventory disposition
Maintains, troubleshoots, reviews, and analyzes inventory discrepancies and provides recommendations for resolution and implementation
Requirements
Completion of a high school diploma or GED
Two years of experience in clerical or customer service
Valid current driver's license
Ability to obtain the following certifications within three years: Backflow Assembly Tester, Customer Service Inspector, and Class C Water Distribution
Knowledge of report preparation techniques, inventory principles and practices, data entry techniques, solid customer service and communication skills, and basic mathematical concepts
Ability to address customer requests, concerns, and inquiries; accurately count, record, and enter data; evaluate and assess cost of meter repair versus replacement; maintain adequate meter and parts inventory; establish and implement inventory controls; generate and analyze reports; and demonstrate attention to detail and proficiency in computer and other office technology
Physical Requirements

Occasionally climb ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and other inclined surfaces
Frequently kneel and bend during shift
Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
Occasionally lift and carry up to 75 pounds
Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height
Use hands and fingers to handle objects
Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movements to operate a vehicle
See in order to assess and diagnose systems
Frequently extend arms outward
