Snowmaking Manager Job Description

Bogus Basin Recreational Association is seeking a highly skilled Snowmaking Manager to lead our snowmaking team. As a key member of our mountain operations team, you will be responsible for the production of high-quality man-made snow on our trails.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain the snowmaking system, ensuring consistent and efficient snow production.
  • Supervise and train a team of snowmakers, providing guidance and support to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their duties.
  • Direct the activities of multiple shifts of snowmakers, coordinating their efforts to produce snow in a variety of conditions.
  • Work closely with the grooming team to ensure that snowmaking activities are aligned with grooming operations.
  • Track expenditures and labor costs, ensuring that they are in line with our annual operating budget.
  • Coordinate daily snowmaking activities with the Director of Mountain Operations and the Director of Slope Engineering.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Mountain Operations, Grooming, Lift Maintenance, and Ski Patrol, to ensure that snowmaking activities are coordinated and safe.
  • Monitor snowmaking water supply, ensuring that all snowmaking trails are covered.
  • Make recommendations for future snowmaking improvements, ensuring that our system remains efficient and effective.
  • Perform annual maintenance on the snowmaking system, fan guns, and other equipment.
  • Prepare and monitor operating and capital budgets, ensuring that expenditures are in line with our financial plans.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of snowmaking experience, with expertise in fan gun operation and maintenance.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience supervising a team of snowmakers.
  • Knowledge of snowmaking techniques and practices in varying weather and temperature conditions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment, including front-end loaders, skid-steer loaders, dozers, and backhoes or excavators.
  • Experience with snowmaking system repairs and maintenance, including hydrants, pedestals, valves, and pipeline.
  • Ability to follow and develop annual labor and expense budgets, as well as capital project budgets.
  • Familiarity with snowmaking system installation and upgrades.
  • Expert snowmobile rider and ability to ski or snowboard any terrain or conditions.
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately, with or without reasonable accommodations and without injury to incumbent or others.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward guests and staff.
  • College degree preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to smoke, dust, fumes, and odors.
  • Vibration and noise are present in the work environment.
Schedule:

The schedule will vary based on the needs of the department and operating hours.

Personal Appearance:

When in the public eye, your personal appearance is an important part of the product we offer our guests. You should come to work neatly groomed and in uniform.

In addition to the uniform you are issued, you will be required to provide:

  • Waterproof Pac boots in good repair.
  • Thermal wear, sufficient clothing for warmth.
  • Waterproof jacket, pants, gloves.
  • Ski/Snowboard equipment.
