Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacist to join our team at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA. As a Pharmacist, you will be responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services to patients at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide authoritative instructions, advice, and assistance to prescribing and dispensing officials on the effectiveness, suitability, hazards, and appropriateness of pharmaceuticals.
  • Prepare and dispense medications using appropriate techniques and following health system policies and procedures.
  • Serve on committees, boards, and other bodies representing the pharmacy service and providing authoritative input on pharmacy-related matters.
  • Monitor the dispensing of all pharmaceuticals in the MTF and allied facilities, analyzing patterns and trends to determine appropriate, effective, and economical prescribing and dispensing.
  • Counsel or recommend alternatives that will still satisfy the medical needs of the situation.
  • Look for indications of misuse or abuse of pharmaceuticals and recommend corrective or remedial activities to ensure compliance with operating instructions and quality assurance criteria and procedures.
  • Provide pharmacy input to quality assurance reviews and similar processes.
  • Prepare, conduct, or oversee the training of students, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers on the use of drugs and other pharmaceuticals.
  • Provide concise, applicable, and timely responses to requests for drug information from healthcare providers and patients.
  • Provide medication use and disease state education to patients and caregivers.
  • Design medication use and disease state education for patients and caregivers in both individual and group settings that effectively meets their needs.
  • Use effective patient education techniques to provide counseling to patients and caregivers, including information on drug therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and drug administration.
  • Use effective strategies for communicating with patients who are non-English speakers or who are impaired.
Requirements
  • A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes preparing pharmaceuticals, providing medication counseling to patients, and providing pharmaceutical education to healthcare professionals.
