Emergency Department Registered Nurse

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse is a vital member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. As a skilled nurse, you will implement the nursing process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Operate various medical equipment, including cardiac monitors, fluid warmers, and defibrillators, with precision and accuracy.
- Conduct thorough physical assessments of patients, identifying their unique needs and requirements.
- Remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Communicate effectively with team members, providers, patients, and families, utilizing the We C.A.R.E philosophy to deliver exceptional care.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as moving equipment and patients, while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Complete triage assessments and sort patients according to acuity, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
- Provide care for central lines, IV insertion/care, and blood transfusions, adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
- Utilize excellent written communication skills to document patient information in the electronic health record.
- Set up and maintain sterile fields as needed, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
- Verify and administer medications accurately, using barcode scanning technology to prevent errors.
- Place orders in the electronic health record, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Monitor supply levels and order necessary materials, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Collect, label, and deliver specimens to the laboratory in a timely manner, ensuring accurate and efficient testing.
- Multitask and prioritize workload to maintain patient flow through the Emergency Department, ensuring efficient and effective care.
- Access and utilize the electronic medical record (EMR) to provide high-quality patient care.
- Educate patients and families on visitation policies, hand hygiene, and other essential topics, promoting a culture of safety and respect.
- Intervene promptly and appropriately when assessing patient conditions that worsen, requiring immediate physician attention.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and team members, ensuring seamless care coordination.
- Participate in emergency operations as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Maintain isolation procedures as indicated, adhering to hospital policies and guidelines.
- Comply with hand hygiene protocols 100%, promoting a culture of infection prevention.
- Clean patient rooms according to EVS procedures, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Review quality indicators monthly, striving to exceed goals for trauma, stroke, STEMI, barcode scanning, and suicide precautions.
- Check email at the beginning and end of each shift, staying informed and up-to-date on important communications.
- Complete all assigned HealthStream modules prior to the designated deadline, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
- Attend and complete the Annual Competency Training Course, ensuring proficiency in essential skills and knowledge.
- Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.
- One year of medical/surgical and/or ER nursing experience preferred, but not required.
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS.
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 90 days of employment required.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification within 90 days of employment required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification within 90 days of employment required.
- Moderate Sedation certification within 90 days of employment required.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course certification within 180 days of employment required.
