Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at the Indian Health Service. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will be responsible for providing respiratory care services to adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory care services to patients of all ages, including acute and critical care.
  • Complete assessments through direct contact, chart review, and other means as appropriate, and share information with the healthcare team.
  • Obtain medical, surgical, and family history, as well as social, behavioral, and occupational history.
  • Inspect the chest and extremities to detect deformation, cyanosis, edema, clubbing, and other anomalies.
  • Measure vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
  • Evaluate patient breathing effort, ventilatory pattern, and use of accessory muscles.
  • Measure and document oxygen saturation with oximetry under all appropriate conditions.
  • Establish and maintain manual and/or mechanical ventilation for critical newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.
  • Perform diagnostic testing for patients requiring Forced Vital Capacity, Slow Vital Capacity, Lung Volumes, Body Plethysmography, and diffusing capacities.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes. Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.

This position requires the ability to work rotating schedules, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays. The selected individual must be able to pass the E-Verify employment verification check and undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire.

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.

Minimum Qualifications: Your resume or other supporting documents must demonstrate that you meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications: GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing respiratory modalities in the critical care environment to include neonatal, pediatric, and adult populations; performing advanced airway management to include artificial airways and ventilation; consulting with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding complex respiratory care to develop patient care plans to provide favorable patient outcomes; and evaluating the efficacies of therapeutic modalities.

Education: If you qualify based off of your education, you are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required from all selectees prior to receiving an official offer.
